£800.00

I originally bought my Saito radial FG-19R3 just for the pleasure of having such a beautiful engine, from Steve Webb Models. They are works of engineering art. I have the original box and tools.

But it needed to fly, and I built this Comper Swift for it. I got the outline from a Ben Buckle kit plan, but I altered the tail end to match photographs of the Salmson-powered earlier examples of the fullsize. The reason for this is that most Swifts flew behind a Pobjoy radial which had a reduction gearbox and so the prop shaft and engine crankshaft were separated by a foot or so, and this doesn’t match the Saito. The Salmson engine was direct drive.

The wings fold for transport, as the full size aircraft does.

Wingspan – 71″. Weight just under 5kg. Covered in Solartex.

It has flown about 10 times. Our tarmac runway has lots of surface damage and so after damaging and repairing the u/c a couple of times, and nosing it over once (scratching one rocker cover), I’ve decided that this is not a good place to fly it. Also I’m downsizing now, I no longer feel confident flying heavier models.

The engine now costs £875 new. So, I’m looking for offers close to £800 for this model. I ran it in to Saito’s instructions, and run it on best quality model 4-stroke oil.

Fitted with a FrSky X8R receiver – deduct £20 if not wanted.

More photos available by email, on request.

I have an electric starter, fuel carrier with manual pump, and useful bits for the flying field which is available to whoever buys the second of the models I have for sale.
